Every good thing comes from the Father of Light.

Nothing we can do on our own would ever accomplish God’s purposes like only He can. While timely details can be found in our Prayer Updates list, needs below (adapted from Wycliffe‘s pamphlet Praying for Missionaries; similar material is available here) are almost always relevant. We hope you will be encouraged by some scriptural examples (ESV) of people praying (or being asked to pray) for these things. Thank You for praying this work to completion!

Brothers [and sisters], pray for us.
—1 Thessalonians 5:25

I will pray with my spirit, but I will pray with my mind also…
—1 Corinthians 14:15b

Rejoice in hope, be patient in tribulation, be constant in prayer.
—Romans 12:12

Continue steadfastly in prayer, being watchful in it with thanksgiving.
—Colossians 4:2

Join the Missionary Work Through Prayer

I urge you, brothers and sisters, by our Lord Jesus Christ and by the love of the Spirit, to join me in my struggle by praying to God for me. —Romans 15:30

Pray for Open Doors

Continue steadfastly in prayer, being watchful in it with thanksgiving. At the same time, pray also for us, that God may open to us a door for the word, to declare the mystery of Christ… —Colossians 4:2-3a

Pray for Boldness

…To that end, keep alert with all perseverance, making supplication for all the saints, and also for me, that words may be given to me in opening my mouth boldly to proclaim the mystery of the gospel, for which I am an ambassador in chains,
that I may declare it boldly, as I ought to speak.

—Ephesians 6:18b-20

for I know that through your prayers and the help of the Spirit of Jesus Christ this will turn out for my deliverance, as it is my eager expectation and hope that I will not be at all ashamed, but that with full courage now as always Christ will be honored
in my body, whether by life or by death.

—Philippians 1:19-20

And now, Lord, look upon their threats and grant to your servants to continue
to speak your word with all boldness
,
—Acts 4:29

Pray that God’s Word Will Spread

Finally, brothers [and sisters], pray for us, that the word of the Lord may speed ahead
and be honored, as happened among you,

—2 Thessalonians 3:1

Pray for Partners

I thank my God in all my remembrance of you, always in every prayer of mine for you all making my prayer with joy, because of your partnership
in the gospel from the first day until now.
—Philippians 1:3-5

Even in Thessalonica you sent me help for my needs once and again. Not that I seek the gift, but I seek the fruit that increases to your credit. I have received full payment, and more. I am well supplied, having received from Epaphroditus the gifts you sent, a fragrant offering, a sacrifice acceptable and pleasing to God.
—Philippians 4:16-18

Pray for Protection

And pray that we may be delivered from wicked and evil people, for not everyone has faith.
—2 Thessalonians 3:2

Then I proclaimed a fast there, at the river Ahava, that we might humble ourselves before our God, to seek from him a safe journey for ourselves, our children, and all our goods. For I was ashamed to ask the king for a band of soldiers and horsemen to protect us against the enemy on our way, since we had told the king, “The hand of our God is for good on all who seek him, and the power of his wrath is against all who forsake him.” So we fasted and implored our God for this, and he listened to our entreaty.
—Ezra 8:21-23

Guard me, O Lord, from the hands of the wicked;
preserve me from violent men,
who have planned to trip up my feet.
—Psalm 140:4

Pray for Effective Ministry

And when he had entered the house, his disciples asked him privately, “Why could we not cast it out?” And he said to them, “This kind cannot be driven out by anything but prayer.”
—Mark 9:28-29

And Cornelius said, “Four days ago, about this hour, I was praying in my house at the ninth hour, and behold, a man stood before me in bright clothing and said, ‘Cornelius, your prayer has been heard and your alms have been remembered before God. Send therefore to Joppa and ask for Simon who is called Peter. He is lodging in the house of Simon, a tanner, by the sea.’ So I sent for you at once, and you have been kind enough to come. Now therefore we are all here in the presence of God to hear all that you have been commanded by the Lord.”
—Acts 10:30-33

Pray for Health

Is anyone among you sick? Let him call for the elders of the church, and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord. And the prayer of faith will save the one who is sick, and the Lord will raise him up. And if he has committed sins, he will be forgiven. Therefore, confess your sins to one another and pray for one another,
that you may be healed.

—James 5:14-16a

For everything created by God is good, and nothing is to be rejected if it is received with thanksgiving, for it is made holy by the word of God and prayer.
—1 Timothy 4:4-5
